Our language café that takes place in the Language Hub, recently has become entirely student-led. Grade 9 students, Leonina and Joao, with the guidance of Miss Sarah, successfully organised and will host the first Christmas-themed Language Café this week!

The Hub Language Café offers students an opportunity to enjoy lunch while exchanging phrases in their home languages. The café provides a space where students can connect in a fun and engaging way, meet new people, and communicate in their home languages.

Welcoming space for students

The cafés have become a favourite among Hub students, generating excitement and frequent requests for upcoming cafes. Beyond language sharing, the café has created a welcoming space where students from all grades can bond over shared traditions from their home countries. The atmosphere is filled with lively conversations, games, and cultural exchanges, predominantly facilitated through home languages.

Card games or music

For example, students at the Russian table might teach a traditional card game, while the Portuguese table offers the chance to enjoy traditional music. Additionally, students from different grades may meet for the first time, to build a relationship in their shared home language.

Promote inclusivity

The Language Café has evolved into a cherished space for students to express themselves in their native languages, build connections, and share cultural traditions. It is a heartwarming initiative that not only celebrates home languages but also continues to enrich the student community and promote inclusivity.
