Parent Information at ISU

Throughout the year we invite parents to several types of information sessions. First of all there are meetings (and written reports) to keep track of your child(ren)'s progress. We also organise meetings to help parents better understand the curriculum. All parents are also welcome to attend the online meetings with the Head of School and the special parent information evenings for which we invited guest speakers. School parents can find all the information/dates in the For Parents section of the website on PYP Documents and MYP & DP Documents.

First and foremost, we provide our parents with information about their own child(ren)'s progress. Primary parents will receive an invitation to attend the Get to Know You Meetings and Oral Progress Meetings. The Get to Know You Meetings take place at the start of the school year. Parents bring their child with them to meet the classroom teacher for an informal chat. This is a great opportunity for the classroom teacher to better understand their students, needs and families. For students it is important to know that their teacher and parents are working closely together for their education. During the twice yearly Oral Progress Meetings, parents meet their child's classroom teacher to discuss progress. Secondary parents are urged to attend the Student-Led Conferences during which students present their work and goals for the year. A mentor or subject teacher will also be present during these meetings. Later in the year we organise parent-student-subject teacher meetings in which parents can book up to 3 appointments with their child's subject teachers. Primary parents can expect a mid-year and end-of year written report in January and July, whilst secondary parents will receive a written report in winter (January), spring (April) and at the end of the academic year (July).

Information about the curriculum

These are the information sessions for primary parents explaining for example Mathematics, Language learning, or Assessment in the PYP. The sessions are partly online and partly in school and will give parents an insight into the curriculum and our way of teaching. Secondary parents are encouraged to attend the subject specific workshops during the Student-Led Conferences day. On this day they can attend several subject specific workshops led by our subject teachers. The workshops will be either geared towards lower MYP or upper MYP & DP.

Meet & Greet with the Head of School

These are 6 informal, online meetings with Ms Marieke Folkers, Head of School. These meetings usually start with a short update after which parents are invited to ask questions, or share their opinion.

Special Parent Evenings

These evenings are led by guest speakers and in the 2024-25 academic year will cover the following topics:

  • Third Culture Kids (22 October, led by Kate Berger)
  • Multilingualism (25 March led by Eowyn Crisfield)
  • Development of the teenage brain (21 May, led by Aletta Smits)
