On Wednesday 19 March a group of students, staff & stakeholders celebrated the official start of the construction of our new campus at Utrecht Science Park.

By Ingrid Schmoutziguer, Communications Advisor

It truly was a joyous moment to celebrate with everyone who is working very hard to make us realise our dream of a new school building, housing 1200 students, a nursery and after school care facility. The teams from constructor Van Wijnen and installations firm ITN, the architects from SVP and Cross, the team from the municipality of Utrecht and Alderman for Education Eelco Eerenberg, Our school board members, Anko van Hoepen and Jeroen Kreijkamp as well the team from Maar Bouwmangement who have been involved with our school for ten years now.  And last but definitely not least, our own leadership team, a group of students and their mentors and art teacher also joined the celebrations.

Interviews

Instead of having several speeches, Ms Marieke Folkers, our Head of School conducted short interviews with all stakeholders present. Luca (student Grade 6) was brave enough to stand on the podium and tell us what he most looks forward to in the new building. "More space to play football." PHE teacher Mr Jeroen Lamme, couldn't agree more. He looks forward to having our own playing fields and gyms, but also to be able to utilise the existing sports facilities at Utrecht Science Park at Olympus and the nearby Kromme Rijn swimming pool.

Banner reveal

The big moment, was the reveal of a specially created banner by Barzah, Hamsika (students Grade 6) Lihi and Michelle (students Grade 8). On this banner you can see multiple drawings from students, introducing our school community to the new neighbours at Utrecht Science Park. Students who made the best drawings were invited to the celebrations at Utrecht Science Park.

See for yourself

The banner is displayed on the fence surrounding the building site. If you are curious, why not plan a bike ride to Cambridgelaan 101 to see for yourself what a great job these students did.
